The assistant teacher will work collaboratively with the teacher and the team to support a program that is stimulating and challenging for each individual child
Position Responsibilities and Functions:
Foster a supportive and respectful learning environment which enhances children’s learning through play and through the development of relationships inspired by the ELC’s vision.
Responsible to plan and prepare materials for activities & display boards for current and forthcoming topics.
Give presentations and Instruct children in the correct use and care of equipment and materials in order to prevent injury and or damage.
To work with the teacher to organize and lead activities to promote all areas of development, cognitive, literacy, math, social and emotional, physical, creativity and understanding the world
Assists in the implementation and the maintaining of the daily routine in the classroom.
Responsible to teach basic personal hygiene, proper eating habits and social skills.
Act as classroom teacher if and when needed especially in the absence of teacher, following the lesson plan and regular academic routine.
Assist with photocopying and laminating of teaching materials; and assist in labelling children’s work and displays.
Assist teacher to adhere to the class timetable; and to re-enforce learning concepts.
Assist teacher to prepare, plan, deliver effective teaching and learning programs and observe, assess and document children’s progress.
Ensure that the health and safety of the children is maintained AT ALL TIMES in keeping with the child protection and safety policy.
Assist in preparation of children’s reports and portfolios for parents each term.
Establish and maintain a learning environment both indoors and outdoors that is stimulating and provides a wide range of resources and materials that the children can utilise to develop individual and group projects.
Undertake domestic jobs within the ELC when required; tidying equipment, bathroom duties (hand washing, changing nappies and general bathroom hygiene) preparation and assistance with snack times.
Working knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and education
Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
First Aid trained
BA in education or related degree/diploma
Early years certifications: Cache Level 2 Certified or Montessori Diploma
2 to 4 years’ experience working with children
