The floater’s primary role is to support and aid the classroom she is placed in. The floater should work together with fellow colleagues to assure a good learning environment for the children. She must be willing to take on any role she is given, based on the staff member she is asked to replace.
Position Responsibilities and Functions:
Support and aid children with their learning, play, educational and social development.
To merge in to the classroom environment, without causing any disruption or change to the class routine
Inquiring of the teacher or head teacher, the role they are assuming and then try to fit into the role efficiently, without deviating from the regular routine
Support and aid children with feeding, changing clothes, nappies, and taking them to the toilet
Attend to children’s personal hygiene in a discreet and dignified manner
Participate in supervising play time
Maintain a clean and healthy environment throughout the ELC.
Ensure that the health and safety of the children is maintained AT ALL TIMES in keeping with the child protection and safety policy.
Work in cooperation with the class teacher inquiring about the lesson plan, art activities to be conducted or ‘hands on’ time to be supervised.
Participate in sessions of professional development, held to improve performance in areas of child handling
Good communication & interpersonal skills
Ability to have flexibility in adjusting to different people/classroom environments
Time management and multi-tasking skills
Knowledge of children’s developme
Cache level 1 or Child Care Diploma • 2 to 3 years of child handling experience
